So, on to Chicago and what a treat it was.
We flew on a domestic flight, the plane a little less spacious than those used for trans-atlantic trips but all, OK. By arrangement, my hired hoist was shipped across with me, which made negotiating the airport…tricky! But, we are resourceful and resilient and we managed. We had an easily found, pre-arranged, wheelchair cab picking us up – result! All went smoothly.
Chicago has to be the best place I’ve been yet for wheelchair travel/hotel/accessibility. We had to give some notice but, essentially, there was no trouble getting accessible MPV cabs anywhere – I was in the back with the baggage but, hey! This was a lot better than on the sidewalk, no transport!
We stayed in the Four Seasons, as usual, in a good-sized suite, high up with fantastic views over the lake. The bathroom/shower was genuine walk-in and huge! The hotel and our stay were all as you expect from the Four Seasons and we loved it.
Chicago city centre was very walkable, EaZyD found the humidity tough going though! Pretty much everywhere we went had wheelchair access. We loved the meal we had at Charlie Trotter’s, the modern art museum and a great store full of jazz music including old vinyl, tapes and real hard to get hold of stuff. The general shopping was good but - if you are used to New York or London – limited! You just can’t have it all, can you?
We are now back at home, recuperating, and, next month, we fly to New York…have we got ANY money left to spend there?
