We spent a few days in Atlanta (business) and went on to Chicago, for some fun, rather than New York this year… actually, we knew we would be going to New York later in the year - no real deprivation happening here!
We did the same routine as last year for carers, equipment, hotel but thought we would try a hire car rather than be bankrupted by the para-ambulance set up again. As ever, we meticulously organized this from the UK, explaining that it was essential we had a two-door model similar to our own car.
We traveled reasonably smoothly subject to the usual hiccups in getting appropriate seating on the aircraft and overcoming the bewildered assistance from airline staff – either their training totally omits the non-standing passenger or they just never see enough of us to understand our needs. Get out there, people, fly!
In Atlanta, EaZyD went to pick up the car. Ooops, no car! They had let our specially arranged two-door saloon go. All they had left was a bright red, low-slung sporty equivalent with furry brown seat covers. ‘No furry dice to dangle off the mirror?’ Sadly, no!
The staff at The Four Seasons didn’t blink as we pulled up and – ungracefully – unloaded me, and our bags. Our stay was great - more films, more food and, with wheels, we got to see a bit of Atlanta on this trip – shopping and eating in town … what more is there?
I did have a miserable moment, waiting in a car park, as EaZyD browsed in a non-accessible shop. I looked, morosely, out of the window. The sun was setting behind the high-rise buildings, I was staying in a fab hotel, shopping and eating in North America albeit in a tacky red sportscar…really, how bad was my life?!
On to Chicago ...
