My website is moving on albeit slowly – my web design skills are oh, so, cool - my health, less so. I have developed my concept a bit further. It is important to me that my site acknowledges that this ‘living life like everyone else‘ is pretty tricky for wheelchair users. This was one of the most shocking discoveries for me. I just assumed life went on, as usual from a wheelchair…if only! I hope my site will be one of resource with fun and quality of life as a given expectation. And, I want the illustrations to reflect this. I had no luck getting mates to do the illustrations but Monk did try, see Urban Spook for his work. I felt very inspired by the Demetriospsillos site – fab stuff from the brother of my brother-in-law’s work colleague, a tenuous link! Clearly, I am going to have to decide if I want to invest money in this idea...damn. I was hoping to avoid having to make that decision! HA, I laugh in the face of obstacles...however, commissioning an illustrator sounds scary and expensive but my site just does not fly without pictures. How strong is my gut instinct about this? Are there others like me out there? So, back to the web... Having looked, there are a lot of illustrators out there but it would be nice to have an illustrator who is a wheelchair user...sort of...but how do you find a good one of those? Interestingly, I have discovered very few positive images of wheelchair people about.... And then, I found Ian Mitchell, Mr Inkymitch, on the Association of Illustrators website. Wheelchairs were not an alien concept to him. I loved his illustrations....soooo, watch this space, we’re flying, health permitting… |
