What happens when a shoe-crazy, lipstick obsessed, wine-swilling, pasta-slurping, fashion-fanatic, single-forever, about-to-get married big-city girl cartoonist (me, Marisa Acocella) with a fabulous life finds… A LUMP IN HER BREAST?!? I read a book this week called Cancer Vixen by Marisa Acocella Marchetto. I loved it...it is being serialised in The First Post. ZING! - light-bulb flashing – I need illustrations on my website. I do so love people who can be seriously ill in style. I laughed out loud. So much of this book reflected feelings and emotions that I share. I totally recommend it to anyone who is trying to combine illness and a fabulous – or even a normal - lifestyle. Ok, it is about breast cancer…again! We’ve just gotta live with the fact that women’s breasts are nice to look at, think about and ‘do’ media rather better than neurological paralysis…even when riddled with cancer. And, all cancers have some recovery/remission rates; neuro is just grim doom and gloom – bummer, get over it! I was reading Cancer Vixen whilst developing my website concept. I want it to be a database of experiences and recommendation, or not, for wheelchair users. I am starting it from my vast history of emails about my life on wheels. Just think, if I can do this I will never have to do another ‘big e’ (my infrequent huge catch up emails to friends and family) or keep droning on about writing a novel – tried this, can’t do it...just am not that interesting but I can do sharp funny little ‘shorts’ about life on wheels... I have a name stilettowheels.co.uk – which works for me on many levels... the play on heels and wheels, sassy, sharp, horrid people and places can be stiletto’d, nice places well(w)heeled and so on. I bought myself some web design software called Freeway Pro and am teaching myself to use it. Currently my design skills are lagging behind my ideas but I persevere... |
