Ohmigod, nightmare! This was our worst trip so far …
Sadly, we were unable to trace our previous wheelchair cab company – something to do with tax breaks, dissolution and new companies, aaagh! We ended up in the dreaded – ‘give me your money… no, more of it’ - para-ambulance vehicle. Expensive and crap!
As I slid across the back of this ambulance – my wheels came loose from the restraints! – on the trip from airport to hotel, I came uncomfortably close to losing my sang-froid ... indeed, the driver may have thought I was screaming like the proverbial banshee or was I just screaming on the inside ... it’s all a blur!
We stayed at the Sofitel for the business end of the trip which was an OK, functional business hotel. We transferred across to, our fave, the Four Seasons for the next few days. Due to aforementioned problems, we spent hours in our hotel room sorting out the hoist.
At one stage, I had a very ‘Sigourney Weaver strapped into big robot machine from Aliens’ look happening, though I was wailing, 'I want to go home,' very loudly, rather than blowing the mothers sky high!
In addition, we missed the start of films, arrived at non-accessible restaurants (they lied!), got drenched in rain – jeez, I am getting depressed recalling this!
On the plus side, EaZyD managed to get a Miyake white shirt he has been chasing forever, we bought some fab glass and ceramic thingies, I spent $700 on a pair of earrings for me (which were for pierced ears and I don't have pierced ears so I had to send them to France to get ear bit changed. I don't even wear earrings much these days...I was very fed up!), had a lot of afternoon teas and hotel meals.
Overall, with our usual creativity and flexibility, we muddled through. ‘I’ll be back’ ... yes, yes, I know it was Arnie, not Sigourney, who said that ... hoping for better next time!
