It is a bit tricky to get to but so worth the journey that we went back to eat at Petersham Nurseries this month with the Doo-wop crew. We were very lucky as we caught a fabulous late summer day - warm, sunny - just fantastic for a late lunch to shoot the breeze. In the winter, we had sat inside the glasshouse with all the ferns on a rickety iron table. This time, we were outside on a solid wood table, under a big parasol, and, although the potholes were still in place from car park to nursery, we had no mud and puddles to negotiate. The food was as great as the last time we were here – beautiful produce, super salads, fish, pulses, fruits – all looking just like the pictures in her book. A Year in my Kitchen by Skye Gyngell. We chilled in the sun and did that surreal summer thing of coordinating diaries to book our usual pre-Christmas dinner together....a weird juxtaposition of seasons! I kept saying to EaZyD how nice Petersham and Ham are… like, in the country but close to London...and I could easily live there. EaZyD: ‘But there are no shops....’! |
