When I asked what she suggested I do if my hoist breaks down, she said, ‘I don’t know but if this unsafe you shouldn’t use it.’
What planet do these people live on? I pointed out that The SS have never responded to any breakdown in less than 2 days, longer if it is at the weekend, and only then with the same hoist I use as back-upl It took them nearly two weeks to get a supplier to cover my hoist and there was no one who could get me a like-for-like hoist as cover within a couple of hours which is what I need if my own breaks down. How can they be in this job and so unaware of people’s needs?
Apparently, according to my care agency, I would be bed bound in a nappy until The SS could sort it out. Do people in this ‘service’ industry think it OK to keep a fully continent adult in nappies in a bed for more than 3 weeks? I am both outraged and appalled at the suggestion. Shouldn’t ‘do as you would be done to’ apply here? Would you/they accept this? If not, why should I? Human dignity … anyone?
Falling back, as ever, on my own resources, and anxious to avoid prolonged use of the back-up myself, I have ended up personally footing the bill to hire a duplicate of my regular hoist privately (at £50 per week plus £65 delivery and defumigation cost!).
Meantime, I had numerous visits from repair engineers with no knowledge of my hoist or its parts, with incorrect parts or with inadequate tools to effect the repair.
The purchase order had to be resubmitted more than once – despite us sending photos, serial numbers and so on. Even then, when the wheel castor was finally ordered, a mast was sent. You can only laugh can’t you? That was another week or so to sort out.
Fabulous, darlings, not, and, today, my wheels are finally back in working order BUT, I am told, the boom ‘looks worn’ and the hoist still hasn’t been serviced (six monthly is the requirement apparently. My hoist is about five years old!). I have a horrible feeling this is not over. It maybe too soon to send the hired hoist back yet!
